The company expects to hire about 200 workers, both full- and part-time, from 18-years-old to 80-years-old in all departments. Most employed workers will begin work in March to help prepare the store for its grand opening in the spring. The store is expected to open on May 12.

Patches ‘n Pieces Quilt Guild will hold a quilt show March 20-21 at Holy Cross School on Langhorne Road in Lynchburg. For the fourth consecutive year, Verizon is sponsoring and participating in National Engineers Week Foundation’s Global Marathon For, By and About Women in Engineering and Technology, a 24-hour online event that strives to educate and inform middle school, high school and university women worldwide about opportunities in science, technology, engineering and mathematics.

This year’s theme, “Launching Tomorrow,” provides a forum to inspire young women through a combination of live and pre-taped events, and virtual programming, accessible to anyone around the globe. The Global Marathon begins at noon Eastern time on Wednesday (March 10) and ends at noon the next day.

Virginia Governor Bob McDonnell will sign HB787 and HB756 tomorrow, Wednesday, March 10th at 3:00 p.m. The bills will allow for offshore oil and natural gas exploration, production and development as well as allocate 80 percent of future offshore royalties and revenues to transportation and the remaining 20 percent to the Virginia Coastal Energy Research Consortium.

The signing will take place in the Cabinet Conference Room on the third floor of the Patrick Henry Building, Cabinet Conference Room (3^rd Floor), 1111 E. Broad Street, Richmond.

This fundraiser was planned to help Becky Hamlett with medical expenses after giving birth and ending up in the OR, the cath lab, the ICU, flown to Duke hospital in VERY critical condition, and now she’s back at home! The event will be held Saturday, April 17th from 1pm-9pm at the Appomattox Moose Lodge in Appomattox, VA. There is NO fee for admission but please bring your wallets for “donations” inside. There will be kids events inside, a silent auction, basket raffles, and a bake sale. Southland Band (Appomattox) is in the process of contacting vendors to bring/serve food.
